Located 70 kilometers south of the city of Madrid, Toledo is one of the most beautiful and magical cities of Spain: an amazing museum with no doors, full of history, culture and art. Former capital of the Spanish Empire, was declared a World Heritage Site in 1986 for its historic and landscape value, and its environment. If you are interested in the world cultures, you will like to go deep into its streets, due to the coexistence for centuries of the Arabic, Christian and Jewish cultures. That is why it is also known as the City of the Three Cultures.
The Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, enclaved in the Sierra de Guadarrama and only 50 km from Madrid, is one of the most impressive and important monuments of Spain, symbol of Spanish power in the sixteenth century. It was declared a World Heritage Site in 1984 and for many years was considered the eighth wonder of the world.
These are two of the oldest and most charming cities of Spain, both declared as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Avila is the origin of great personalities like Santa Teresa de Jesús or San Juan de la Cruz. It has walls from the eleventh century, the oldest and most completed fortifications in Spain. Segovia is well known for having a very well-preserved 16 km long Roman aqueduct. These two surroundings are the perfect places to get lost in and discover years of Iberian history.
